Creative Writing Coursework: Standing out From the Crowd

Creative writing is a great way to unleash your imagination and lose yourself in a story of your creating. This can be done in many forms but any form that you choose can be an escape from the daily rigors and disappointments of daily life. It can be an outlet for your stress, hopes, fears, dreams, anger, dreams and any emotion at all. It can be an escape from what you go through in life and give you a chance to relive situations in a way that you wish they had really gone.

In Creative Writing classes or assignments sometimes the instructor will tell you what style or type to put your story in. We will start with that.

  1. Type

Types of creative writing formats can be poetry, fiction prose and even music lyrics or playwriting and screenplay formats. Whatever the format that your instructor requires, you can write the assignment out first in the format that you are comfortable with and then go back later and put it in the format that is required.

  2. Significance

Your instructor may give you a broad topic and ask you to write on a particular aspect of that topic that can be of your choosing. They may even ask you to formulate your entire topic with no set topic broad or otherwise. Whatever the case, keep to the instructions and try to find an aspect of it that is relevant, both to your topic and what you may be discussing in class. It could be a parody of current events or anything else that is relevant and significant to you.

  3. Prompts

If your instructor does not give you a specific topic and you are drawing a blank there are sites online that will give you prompts to get the creative juices flowing. When you visit these sites you can get ideas from the prompts but do not copy them word for word. Make sure that your writing is original even if the idea did come from a prompt.

By following this procedure you will be able to create your creative writing coursework that is sure to stand out from the crowd booth in originality and on the grade that you get. By writing about what you know you will always be able to express true feeling and depth through the course of the piece. As always remember to check for spelling and grammar.
